King Lumber was established in 1936 by Jim Bob King and is now under the third generation of King Management.

The King Lumber Company Began as a warehouse built on the Hocking Canal in 1855. In 1861 J.E. Tritsch , having purchased the building formaly used for a flouring mill, founded the Logan Woolen Mill. Products included yarn, blankets, coverlets, and flannel. In 1908 on this site the Lumber and Supply Company was started by a three man partnership. One of the three partners Ed Hamilton, whose nephew, James Robert King, later founded the King Lumber Company. Durring the depression the Lumber Company went under and James Robert King purchased it, maintaining Business in New Straitsville.

King wanted to open business on the original site of the Lumber and Supply Company and in 1936 the King Lumber Company was established in its present location. The warehouse and property was purchased by Dr. Charles Shonk for $4,500.00 and rented to King for his lumber company. Over the years the property has also housed the Driver's License Bureau, an ice cream shop, a resturant, a florist shop, and the Moose Lodge. After Shonk's death King purchased the property from the Shonk estate and the King Lumber Company expanded to what it is today.
